Dr. Chris Bell B.Sc, DVM, MVetSc, DACVS

Dr. Bell is originally from Airdrie, Alberta where he grew up on a horse farm. He attended the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a B.Sc with high honours in Microbiology and Immunology. Dr. Bell proceeded to attain a DVM with Distinction from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Following his DVM, he completed a 1 year clinical internship at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Center and then completed a 3 year surgical residency program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Bell also completed a Master's of Veterinary Science during his residency program. Dr. Bell is a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS) and a society member of the American College of Veterinary Radiologist. Dr. Bell has published in the areas of immunology, navicular disease, MRI imaging, novel ligament reconstruction techniques, TMJ pathology and upper airway surgery in the horse.

Dr. Bell is an Adjunct Professor of equine surgery and sports medicine with the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. Elders Equine is a host hospital and participates in senior veterinary student, veterinary intern and surgical residency training through this distributed learning program.

Dr. Bell is an active member of the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association and serves as the WCVM Advisory Committee Liaison as well as sits on the Professional Image Committee for the MVMA. He previously served on the Practice Inspection Committee. Dr. Bell is a recognized speaker and has presented at the Provincial, National and International level in the areas of lameness, ethanol fusion of the hocks,  MRI diagnosis and treatment of navicular disease and development of novel sinusitis treatments in horses.

Dr. Bell also participates in the Red River College Animal Health Technology teaching curriculum as host site for the equine anesthesia laboratory. Dr. Bell is also a member of the Red River College AHT Advisory committee and Red River College Curriculum Advisory Committee.

Dr. Bell is a active member of the equine community, sitting on several committees and boards within Manitoba such as the Manitoba Horse Council Breeds and Industry committee. At the National/International level Dr. Bell currently serves as the AAEP liaison with the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Bell is also a Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Council member and sits on the CVMA Canadian Veterinary Reserve and is also the chair of the CVMA Emerging Leaders Program.

Dr. Bell has owned Elders Equine Veterinary Service since 2012. When he is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters and their chocolate lab.

Dr. Bell's main areas of focus are equine surgery and sports medicine (lameness diagnosis, imaging and treatment) in addition to the routine equine health needs of our clients.


Dr. Janice Posnikoff DVM

Dr. Posnikoff received her DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and continued her education with a specialty equine internship at a premier equine hospital in Southern California at Chino Valley Equine Hospital. Following her internship year, she has pursued a successful career in equine medicine and lameness. Dr. Posnikoff is an accomplished equine veterinarian having practiced for the past 20 years in performance sport horse practice in Southern California. Originally from Benito, MB, Janice looks forward to being back in Manitoba to serve the horse community.  Dr. Posnikoff has a special interest in lameness, sports medicine, dentistry, diagnostic ultrasound and podiatry. Dr. Posnikoff has a particular interest in dressage sports medicine and is an avid rider/supporter of the equine sports. Dr. Posnikoff has co-authored a book and is a contributing author to Horse Illustrated.  Dr. Posnikoff brings a huge amount of experience and knowledge to our practice and we look forward to welcoming her back to Manitoba coming spring of 2018. 


Dr. Kristine Torske DVM, DVSc (Anesthesia)

Dr Kristine Torske received her DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991.  Following graduation she completed an internship in Large Animal Medicine, Surgery and Theriogenology at the Atlantic Veterinary College.  Following two years of mixed practice in Alberta and Manitoba, she completed a clinical residency and Doctor of Veterinary Science (DVSc) in Veterinary Anesthesiology at the Ontario Veterinary College. She lives in rural Manitoba where she is active in small animal private practice and provides veterinary anesthesia referral and consulting


Dr. Norm Elder DVM (Emeritus)

Dr. Elder is originally from Southern Saskatchewan and has been involved with horses all day eventing National Jr Champion in 1963. Dr. Elder graduated Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1965. Dr Elder founded Elders Equine Clinic in 1967 and provided veterinary care to horses from all over the Province. Dr. Elder has held many offices including past president of both the Western Canadian Association of Equine Practitioners and the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Manitoba) in addition to serving with the Manitoba Jockey Club executive body. He has been awarded the 1996 WCAEP Veterinarian of the Year and the 2001 MVMA Manitoba Veterinarian of the Year. Dr. Elder retired from full time practice in 2012 but continues to consult on cases and provide care for horses at ASD.

Sara Haddow, RVT

Sara grew up on a grain farm in southeastern Saskatchewan.  Sara was involved in curling, SADD chapter, school representative council (SRC) and drama club in her years of schooling in Arcola, SK.  She has been around horses all her life, in her spare time Sara enjoys spending time at the barn with her horse as well as showing Western Pleasure in small shows/fairs in addition to a few AQHA shows.  She achieved her Animal Health Technology Diploma in May 2014 from Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta.


Michelle Arrowsmith, RVT

Michelle graduated from Red River College RVT program in 2012 and has been a registered veterinary technician since that time. She has gained experience working with a variety of different species including spending time at the zoo, working overseas with an elephant sanctuary and helping treat wildlife from the Prairie Wildlife Foundation. She currently owns two hairless cats and a dashshund as well as fostering her passion for working with horses.


Erin Lepp, Veterinary Assistant

‚ÄčErin is a veterinary assistant that also assists with keeping our patients happy in the stables and helping the veterinarians and technicians with their duties. Erin has completed a degree in biochemistry at the U of Winnipeg and has aspirations to become a veterinarian.
