"Chevy" Fenwick presented for a lateral heel bulb laceration which had occurred about a week prior to admission. The heel bulb was managed with a foot cast and Chevy's lameness improved with the cast. The cast was removed, and we found that the lateral heel bulb was completely devitalized and required removal/debridement including the coronary band and lateral capsule with a piece of devitalized/sequestered P3 bone. The wound was well granulated and appeared to be sealed well. Jonathan Green CJF attended the practice for consultation and a therapeutic shoe was designed and applied to provide support for the foot during the next phase of the healing process. Chevy is walking sound and is improving daily.
" Thanks to the help and guidance of Elder's Equine, Johnathan Green, Scott MacKenzie and Cyndi Kasper, my mare has come back strong as ever. Without these people and their extensive knowledge and experience, we wouldn't be where we are today. "
Fenwick Family
"Banger" Blair - Pressure necrosis/septic focal pedal osteitis dorsomedial P3 at coronet and adjacent RH.
Dorsal hoof wall as resected surgically and a 1.75 inch piece of wood was found within the sensitive laminae entombed within the wall.
Banger was sent home to have a support shoe put on the RH while the hoof wall resection healed and grew out.
"Moonshine" Bedard - RH ruptured hoof wall abscess at the lateral aspect of the heel and quarter. The hoof wall is bulged with a horizontal deformity of the wall running into the lateral heel wall but continued circumferentially.
Farrier performed evaluation and debridement with hand tools and mechanical tools of the lateral heel wall and floated the heel. Excision of the damaged horn tissue was successful and there was frank gravel and dirt found under the damaged corium.
"Fly" Davey - RH Severe, complete SDFT laceration at the proximal plantar aspect of the cannon/immediately distal to the TMT/hock complex joint. Managed in a Kinsey splint for roughly 3 weeks.
A therapeutic shoe was applied, designed to support the heel.
